Step-by-Step Guide: How to Integrate Direct UPI Payments into WooCommerce in Under 5 Minutes

WooCommerce powers millions of e-commerce websites worldwide. While integrating traditional payment gateways requires extensive business documentation and days of merchant approval, setting up direct UPI checkout can be completed in just a few minutes.

Here is a comprehensive guide to adding zero-commission dynamic QR payments to your WordPress store.

Prerequisites Before Setup

Before beginning, ensure you have:

  • A working WordPress website with WooCommerce installed and active.
  • An active UPI ID linked to your preferred bank account (GPay, PhonePe, Paytm, or BHIM).
  • An active API key from your UPI Gateway dashboard.

Step 1: Upload the Gateway Plugin

  1. Navigate to your WordPress Admin dashboard.
  2. Go to Plugins > Add New and upload the provided UPI Gateway plugin zip file.
  3. Click Install Now, then click Activate Plugin.

Step 2: Configure Your Payment Gateway Settings

  1. From the WordPress sidebar, navigate to WooCommerce > Settings > Payments.
  2. Locate the “UPI Direct Payment Gateway” option and toggle the switch to Enabled.
  3. Click the Manage button to open the configuration panel:
    • Merchant UPI ID: Enter your primary UPI address (e.g., yourname@okaxis or yourbusiness@icici).
    • Merchant Name: Enter your store or business name as it should appear on the customer’s payment screen.
    • Gateway API Key & Secret: Paste the credentials generated from your gateway admin portal.

Step 3: Setting Up Webhook Notifications

Webhooks ensure that when a customer completes their payment, your store automatically marks the order as “Processing” or “Completed” without manual intervention:

  1. In your Gateway Portal, navigate to Settings > Webhooks.
  2. Enter your store’s webhook endpoint URL (e.g., https://yourstore.com/wc-api/upi_webhook).
  3. Select the payment.success event and click Save.

Step 4: Testing Your Checkout Flow

  1. Add any product from your store to the cart and proceed to checkout.
  2. Select “UPI / Instant QR Payment” as your payment method and click Place Order.
  3. A dynamic QR code with the exact order total will appear on screen.
  4. Scan the QR with any UPI app, complete the transaction, and submit the 12-digit UTR reference.
  5. Your order status will immediately update to successful.

With zero coding knowledge required, your WooCommerce store is now ready to accept direct payments with 0% transaction deductions.
